The
Crystal Coast of North Carolina lies along Bogue Banks, which stretches from Emerald Isle
to Atlantic Beach. Besides its obvious natural beauty, the island features many
easily accessible attractions, including Fort Macon, which predates the Civil War, and the
North Carolina Aquarium (see our links page). Nearby on the mainland are Morehead
City, a thriving seaport, and the quaint, historical towns of Beaufort and
Swansboro. You'll really enjoy a day trip to uninhabited, natural Hammocks Beach
State Park and the ferry ride over and back. Farther afield, visit New Bern, the
colonial capital of North Carolina, and home of the historic Tryon Palace.
And make a point to visit all of the famous North Carolina lighthouses, including
Cape Lookout, Bodie Island, and Ocracoke, many of which are close by and accessible
through North Carolina's wonderful public ferry system.
